The UNC men’s lacrosse team got its season started off the right way on Saturday afternoon in Atlanta, as it cruised to a 20-9 victory over the Mercer Bears.
Midfielder Justin Anderson led the way with three goals on five shots for the Tar Heels (1-0), who opened up an 11-3 lead by the halftime break and never looked back the rest of the way.
Including Anderson, seven different UNC players scored at least two goals in the game. The Tar Heels scored 20 goals and had 35 shots on target in an offensive performance that was a good as any the team has had in recent years.
The lead reached as many as 14 goals before Mercer scored three times in the final two minutes to make the final scoreline look a bit closer.
