Senior attacker Chris Gray tied his career-high with 10 points on Saturday, leading the top-ranked UNC men’s lacrosse team to a 16-8 victory over Mercer.

Gray scored six goals and dished out four assists as he continues his red-hot start to the season, having scored at least seven points in five of UNC’s six games.

The Tar Heels also received two goals apiece from Alex Trippi and Tanner Cook, as they improve to 6-0 to start the season.

UNC built a 9-4 lead over Mercer by halftime on Saturday, before posting another strong half to finish off the blowout.

Dating back to last season, head coach Joe Breschi’s squad has won its last 13 games.

“I thought it was hard-fought – Mercer plays so hard and they’re a tough team, especially with their terrific face-off guy, Ashton Wood,” Breschi said afterwards. “Overall, it was a workman-type day. It just felt like a grind – nothing was easy, but that’s OK because with our schedule moving forward, nothing is going to be easy.”
