Fresh off an undefeated season that included a national championship, the UNC field hockey had eight players named to the Academic All-ACC team on Friday–more than any other team in conference.
A total of 41 players were selected throughout the league.
Representing UNC was a group that includes: Marissa Creatore, Malin Evert, Morgan Goetz, Feline Guenther, Catherine Hayden, Ashley Hoffman, Erin Matson and Cassie Sumfest.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career.
Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
“Over the years I’ve seen that our best teams on the field are also the best academically, and that’s true this year,” UNC head coach Karen Shelton said. “It’s important to all of us that Tar Heels perform at the highest levels athletically and in the classroom, and I’m proud to see us lead the league in players named to the All-ACC Academic Team.”
