Bryn Boylan scored her second goal of the game less than five minutes into overtime on Friday in Chapel Hill, lifting the UNC field hockey team to a 4-3 victory over the Syracuse Orange in the ACC Tournament Semifinals.

The win also moved head coach Karen Shelton into sole possession of first place on the NCAA all-time list, giving her 701 during her illustrious career.

Erin Matson and Paityn Wirth each added goals for the Tar Heels (9-1), who led 3-1 early in the fourth quarter before Syracuse (5-4) rallied to tie the game with under a minute remaining in regulation.

Early in the overtime period, Boylan made the most of her penalty stroke attempt to keep UNC’s chances of a 23rd ACC Tournament title alive.

Syracuse out-shot the Tar Heels 17-16 in the game, but was unable to come through in the game’s most crucial moment.
