With a second place finish following the third, and final, round of the NCAA Noblesville Regional on Wednesday in Indiana, the No. 2 seed UNC men’s golf team clinched its spot in the upcoming NCAA Championship tournament.

The Tar Heels finished with a team score of 15-under-par through the 54-hole regional event, tying for second place alongside Tennessee.

Top-seeded Texas won the tournament at 20-under-par in an event where only six teams finished below par.

The top five of the 13 participating teams each earned bids to the NCAA Championship, with Louisville (-10) and UAB (-5) joining Texas, Tennessee and UNC in advancing.

This marks the fourth consecutive season that the Tar Heels have made it past the NCAA Regionals–the first time the program has done that since 1997-2000.

The second-place finish is tied for UNC’s best ever at an NCAA Regional event, matching the program’s finishes in 1995 and 2019.

ACC Champion Peter Fountain and Austin Greaser were the top individual performers for the Tar Heels in Noblesville. Both players finished in a tie for 10th place overall with a score of 3-under-par.
