After winning the stroke play portion of the ACC Championships last week, the UNC men’s golf team earned the No. 2 seed on Wednesday for the NCAA Noblesville (Ind.) Regional–which will be held May 17-19 at the Sagamore Club.

This marks the sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament bid for the Tar Heels and 28th appearance in the NCAA Regionals since they began in 1989.

A total of 85 teams and 45 individuals will compete for the right to be the national champion, with the top five teams and one individual from each regional advancing to the NCAA Championship event.

Texas is the No. 1 seed in the Noblesville Regional ahead of the Tar Heels, while the other teams include: Tennessee, North Florida, Louisville, South Florida, UAB, Duke, UNCW, Arkansas State, Campbell, UT Martin and Loyola (Ill.).
UNC has finished in the top 20 overall and advanced past its regional in each of the program’s last three NCAA Tournaments.

In addition to the strong play at the ACC Championships, the Tar Heels have also won the The Prestige and the Tar Heel Intercollegiate this season.

Peter Fountain also became the first freshman to win the ACC individual championship since 2006 and the first ever to accomplish the feat for UNC.

“We’re excited to hear our name called and find out where we will play,” head coach Andrew DiBitetto said. “We’ve spent the last few days like coaches in every program trying to figure out where the NCAA Committee was going to send us. How to get there, what’s the course play like, how is the climate.

“Now we know and now we get to work preparing and taking care of ourselves through our process,” he added. “We like to simplify things at this time of the year. Every shot counts, body language is important, no matter what happens you just move on to the next shot, the next hole and take care of business.”
