UNC junior Kennedy Monday was named the ACC Wrestler of the Week on Tuesday following an outstanding performance in UNC’s upset victory on the road against No. 3 Virginia Tech this past weekend.

Monday–ranked No. 17 at 165 pounds–defeated No. 3 David McFadden by technical fault 21-6, by far the most impressive win by any Tar Heel to date this season.

The win improved Monday’s overall record to 17-4 this season and 9-1 in dual matches. Of those wins, three have come against opponents ranked in the top 20 nationally in his weight class.

He also becomes the third Tar Heel to be named ACC Wrestler of the Week this season, joining Austin O’Connor and A.C. Headlee–who has won the award twice.
