The ACC announced Tuesday that UNC senior defender Julia Ashley was a co-recipient of the women’s soccer Defender of the Week honor, sharing the award with Virginia Tech goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn.

Ashley helped stifle opposing offenses in the Tar Heels’ first two games of the regular season last week, a 3-1 win over Illinois and a 2-0 shutout against Ohio State. In those games, UNC’s opponents tallied a total of just seven shots.

Head coach Anson Dorrance also picked up his 1000th career victory at the helm of the Tar Heels following Sunday’s win over the Buckeyes.

Next on the schedule is a home match against Texas on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
