The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has announced a second “life-threatening” domestic violence situation in as many days.

Authorities said shortly after midnight Wednesday morning 49-year-old Anthony Wheeler was arrested after telling Central Communication operators that he shot his girlfriend, Tracey Hunt.

Hunt was located in the couple’s residence on Guess Road, according to law enforcement, “with a gunshot wound to the face.”

Deputies recovered the weapon used in the shooting.

Wheeler’s arrest comes after a 19-year-old Hillsborough man was arrested on Tuesday after ramming a vehicle containing his three-month-old child and the infant’s mother three times before taking the child and fleeing the scene.

“This week, my Deputies and I have responded to two life-threatening domestic calls in as many days,” Orange County Sheriff Charles Blackwood said in a release. “I am proud of the quick response to this call of both Deputies and Emergency Management personnel, which likely saved the victim’s life.  During my 38+ years in law enforcement, great strides have been made in addressing interpersonal violence; however, much work still remains.”

Wheeler has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He was placed in the Orange County Detention Center without bond and was scheduled to make his first court appearance on Wednesday afternoon.

Hunt was transported to the hospital, officials said in a release, where she remained as of Wednesday afternoon, according to law enforcement. Authorities said she was listed in stable condition at last update.
