Jovani Fabian was stopped on US 70 near Seven Springs Road east of Hillsborough early Wednesday morning, according to a release, when the 20-year-old was allegedly driving 77 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone.
Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office then noticed beer in the underage driver’s vehicle and “detected the odor of alcohol on Mr. Fabian’s breath,” according to a release. But it was ultimately determined that Fabian was not “appreciably impaired.”
However, a subsequent search of the vehicle led to the seizure of narcotics and firearms, including 2.12 ounces of marijuana, nine packs of transdermal pain patches of Buprenorphine Hydrochloride and five firearms.
Deputies seized a Smith & Wesson 9 mm semi-automatic handgun, two Smith & Wesson .223 caliber AR-15 semi-automatic assault rifles, an American Tactical .22 caliber semi-automatic assault rifle and a Century Arms 7.62 x 39 mm caliber assault rifle, according to a release. Two of those firearms were determined to have been stolen from Sanford and Greenville, North Carolina.
“The importance of the Patrol Division as the tip of the enforcement spear is highlighted by this arrest,” Orange County Sheriff Charles Blackwood said in a release. “We are reminded of the need to be ever vigilant in our efforts to keep weapons illegally possessed and drugs off the streets to protect members of our community and the public at large.”
Fabian is being held in the Orange County Jail under a $50,000 secured bond while facing a slew of charges – possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a schedule IV controlled substance, maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances, felony possession of marijuana, felony possession of a schedule III controlled substance, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a schedule III controlled substance, two counts of possession of a stolen firearm, possession of an open container of alcohol after consuming, underage possession of a malt beverage, possession of drug paraphernalia and carrying a concealed weapon.
