Orange County authorities are searching for a suspect in connection with a home invasion from earlier this month.

The 96-year-old victim told deputies he woke up after hearing what sounded like someone entering his home on Moorefields Road outside Hillsborough. He told law enforcement that he saw two men wearing masks and carrying flashlights.

One of the suspects restrained the victim, law enforcement officials said in a release, while the other suspect took items from the victim. The two suspects fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle, which was found “a few hours later” in a nearby mobile home park.

Authorities have now taken out warrants for the arrest of Raymond Earl Dixon, of Hillsborough, in connection with the break-in. Dixon has been charged with first-degree burglary, common law robbery, two counts of larceny of a firearm, two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon and second-degree kidnapping.

“Home invasions are of particular concern because a person’s sense of safety in his own home is assaulted,” Orange County Sheriff Charles Blackwood said in a release. “Since the night of these crimes, Deputies have increased their presence in the area. I encourage community members to continue working together to keep their neighborhood safe by being observant of their surroundings and contacting 911 if they notice anything of concern.”

The investigation in ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Office at (919) 245-2900.
