A registered sex offender has been arrested after an investigation into alleged sexual assault of a child in Orange County.

Orange County Sheriff’s Office officials said in a release Thursday afternoon that 47-year-old Randy Lewis Woolson had been charged with indecent liberties with a child and statutory sex offense by an adult. Woolson is a registered sex offender from Durham County, according to authorities.

A report alleged that Woolson sexual assaulted a child before fleeing a Phoenix Drive residence on August 25. Sheriff’s Office investigators then “collected statements, photographs, interviews and DNA in addition to obtaining a forensic medial exam of the victim prior to detaining Woolson on Tuesday,” according to law enforcement officials.

Orange County Sheriff’s Office chief deputy Jamison Sykes said in a release:

“We understand the victim’s family expressed concerns regarding the progression of the investigation. In all cases, and particularly one involving a sexual assault of a juvenile, we are required to adhere to state-approved procedures and protocols for interviewing and medical examinations.  Upon the conclusion of the investigation, deputies arrested Woolson, and the case will be turned over to the DA’s Office.”

Authorities said Woolson is being held at the Orange County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond and is schedule to appear in court on September 17.
