The Women’s Professional Lacrosse League opened for business on Wednesday night with its inaugural draft.
Former UNC goalie Caylee Waters–a two-time National Goalie of the Year winner–was selected by the Philadelphia Fire with the first overall choice.
Waters led a group of 12 former Tar Heels who heard their names called during the event, a number that tied for second among all colleges with Northwestern. Maryland led the way with 16 players drafted.
Other players taken from last year’s high-powered UNC squad–which also included Waters–were attackers Molly Hendrick, Sammy Jo Tracy and midfielder Carly Reed.
Laura Zimmermann, Kristen Carr, Sloane Serpe, Courtney Waite, Margaret Corzel, Kara Cannizzaro, Amber Falcone McKenzie and Lindsey Scott represent the rest of the Tar Heels who were chosen.
