The ACC announced Tuesday that UNC junior Erin Matson has been named the league’s Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts in a trio of Tar Heel victories.

Matson began her week by assisting on Meredith Sholder’s game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over Virginia on Monday.

A 1-0 win over Syracuse on Friday saw Matson score the game’s only goal, when she converted a penalty corner in the fourth quarter.

She then closed out her week on Sunday with a goal and two assists in a 5-4 overtime victory over Duke, including another assist on a game-winning goal–this one scored by Hannah Griggs.

UNC is 6-1 through its first seven games this season, with Matson scoring or assisting on the game-winner in all six Tar Heel victories.

She currently leads the ACC in goals (six) and assists (six).

The Tar Heels will return to the field at Karen Shelton Stadium for their next game on Oct. 30 against Wake Forest.
