UNC freshman Erin Matson wasted no time this past weekend making an incredible first impression, which earned her the ACC’s Offensive Player of the Week Award on Tuesday.
Matson scored two goals and dished out two assists over the course of UNC’s wins over No. 5 Michigan and No. 20 Iowa.
She tallied two assists on penalty corner attempts against Michigan and added a goal early in the second half of the Tar Heels’ 5-1 victory in their season opener.
Her goal against Iowa tied the game at 1-1 with less than 10 minutes remaining, while teammate Ashley Hoffman would ultimately end up scoring the game-winner in overtime.
It was quite the debut for the Pennsylvania native, who figures to be a force in head coach Karen Shelton’s lineup for years to come.
Syracuse’s Roos Weers and Duke’s Jillian Wolgemuth shared the league’s Defensive Player of the Week honors.
UNC returns to the field on Friday when it faces Princeton in Philadelphia.
