The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles has provided driver’s license services to state workers at a special location unavailable to the general public, even as citizens wait in line for hours at traditional locations.

WBTV in Charlotte reports it learned about the office this month, as DMV Commissioner Torre Jessup took steps to address longer-than-normal wait times at driver’s license offices statewide.

A sign outside DMV headquarters in Raleigh says there is no driver’s license office in the building. However, the station said some state personnel were scheduled for appointments to get ID cards at the so-called Model Office there. The office has been open one week a month since January.

Gov. Roy Cooper’s office didn’t immediately respond to an email from The Associated Press Tuesday seeking comment.
