After a stunning first two games to open his collegiate career, UNC freshman point guard Cole Anthony was recognized Monday as both the ACC Player and Freshman of the Week.

With UNC opening the season against Notre Dame at home last Wednesday–the first time the team had opened the season in conference play since 1966–Anthony scored 34 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out five assists as the Tar Heels won 76-65.

In his first road game on Friday, Anthony made only seven of his 24 shot attempts but still finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds in a 78-62 win over UNCW.

The nation’s No. 2 overall recruit coming into the season, Anthony has averages of 27 points, 10.5 rebounds and four assists per game so far.

These represent the first ACC weekly awards of his career as well. If his play has been any indication so far, though, they likely won’t be his last.
