UNC forward Day’Ron Sharpe was named the ACC Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Week on Monday for his efforts in the Tar Heels’ last two games.
Sharpe scored seven points and had seven rebounds in a loss to Georgia Tech last Wednesday, then poured in a career-high 25 points and nine rebounds on Saturday to lead the Tar Heels to a victory over Notre Dame.
Those two games also marked the first two career starts for Sharpe, who entered the lineup over senior Garrison Brooks, the Preseason ACC Player of the Year.
His 25 points against Notre Dame were the most by a UNC freshman post player since Tyler Hansbrough had 27 against Duke on March 4, 2006.
This marks the first ACC weekly honor of Sharpe’s career.
