After opening the year with seven straight victories, the top-ranked UNC women’s soccer team got its first taste of defeat on Sunday afternoon–losing 2-0 on the road to the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Anna Podojil put Arkansas (6-1-1) ahead with a goal in the 63rd minute, while teammate Parker Goins doubled that lead in the 81st minute to stomp out any chance of a Tar Heel comeback.
The win marked the first time in Arkansas program history that the Razorbacks have defeated a team ranked No. 1.
It was also just the fifth time since 1985 that UNC (7-1-0) has lost by more than one goal.
The Tar Heels finished with a 12-10 advantage in shots, but were unable to snap the Razorbacks’ nearly 600-minute streak without allowing a goal.
