UNC head softball coach Donna J. Papa announced Thursday that the Tar Heels have hired Annie Aldrete as a volunteer assistant.

Aldrete arrives in Chapel Hill after a successful two-year stint as an assistant at CSU Monterey Bay — helping the Otters to 66 wins in that time frame.  While there, Aldrete was in charge of hitting, pitch calling and practice management.

As a player, Aldrete spent time at both Tennessee and Cal, graduating from the latter school in 2017. She helped the Lady Vols to the College World Series in 2015 and spent time with the U.S. National Team that same year.

While at Cal, she also helped organize a season-long effort to help local domestic violence shelters with her involvement in the Bears’ Dress for Success donation drive.

“I am so grateful for this opportunity at North Carolina,” Aldrete said. “I’m excited to coach and learn in the environment Coach Papa and her staff have created. It is both humbling and exciting to be a part of Carolina Softball. I’m challenged every day to grow and increase my knowledge of the game.”
