The New York Knicks claimed former UNC fan-favorite Theo Pinson off waivers this past Friday from the Brooklyn Nets, where Pinson spent the first two seasons of his pro career after going undrafted out of college.
Pinson–who helped lead the Tar Heels to the 2017 NCAA Championship–played in 51 games for the Nets, averaging 3.9 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game in those contests.
Although the Knicks are one of the eight teams that were left out of the NBA’s restart plan set to begin next month at Disney World in Orlando, many are expecting the NBA to allow offseason training camps for those teams not included. If that turns out to be the case, the Knicks will get a chance to look at Pinson and decide whether they want to pick up his $1.7 million team option for next season.
In order to claim Pinson, New York waived guard Allonzo Trier.
