Despite going undrafted this past June, it appears former UNC fan favorite Theo Pinson may, indeed, get a shot at the NBA this season anyway.

It was reported Wednesday by Michael Scotto of The Athletic that Pinson received a two-way contract from the Brooklyn Nets–which will allow him to spend most of the season with the team’s G-League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, while still able to play a maximum of 45 days with Brooklyn if necessary.

Players given the two-way designation earn a minimum of $77,250 per year, with the opportunity to make $385,000 depending on how much time is spent with the NBA franchise.

The deal also means that Pinson won’t necessarily have to battle for a roster spot in training camp, as the Nets seem to believe in giving him time to develop within their system.

His versatility on the court–and personality off of it–helped endear him to UNC fans over the last four years, as he also played a key role in the Tar Heels’ 2017 national championship run.

In five summer league appearances with the Nets during the month of July, Pinson averaged 11.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists, one steal and one block per game.
