The UNC Police Department alerted the campus community to a report of a rape on Monday afternoon, saying a suspect is being sought and is not apprehended.

Through an Alert Carolina message issued at 5:37 p.m., campus investigators told UNC students, faculty, and staff that a victim reported being raped at the loading dock between the Undergraduate Library and Student Stores on Sunday. The alert said the incident reportedly occurred around 6:07 p.m.

UNC Police said the suspect it is seeking is described as a Black male around 5-foot-7 and who was wearing a blue shirt and shorts. No other descriptors were provided on Monday.

The Alert Carolina said an investigation into the report is ongoing and no other information is available to the public at this time.

Campus police encouraged anyone with information on the reported rape to call 911 or UNC Police’s 24-hour non-emergency assistance line at 919-962-8100. The department also offered for people to visit the Public Safety Building located at 285 Manning Drive for in-person assistance.

UNC Police said any additional public updates will be made on the Alert Carolina website.

For any campus community members who have experienced sexual assault and are seeking support, the university’s Gender Violence Services Coordinators provide confidential aid and advocacy for a variety of harassment experiences. People are encouraged to email or call the program. UNC Counseling and Psychological Services, or CAPS, is also available to call or visit 24 hours a day.
