UNC Police have issued the “All Clear” message following a bomb threat at Kenan Stadium on Thursday, which caused campus law enforcement to block off the area around the football stadium for several hours.
The all clear message was shared at 7:15 p.m., with the university’s Alert Carolina page saying a 911 call at 3:11 p.m. reported a bomb threat to Kenan Stadium. Campus police and emergency responders conducted “a thorough search” of the area while any stadium staff were evacuated and it was ultimately determined that there was no credible threat to the public’s safety.
The university initially shared an Alert Carolina message at 3:55 p.m. to the UNC campus community and beyond, saying an investigation is ongoing and people are asked to avoid the area. Follow-up alerts were shared one hour and two hours later, each saying the investigation was still ongoing and people should continue to detour around the football stadium. UNC Health sent a message to its employees requesting anyone parked at the Bell Tower Parking Deck to remove their vehicles and that the lot would be closed until Friday, July 10.
At the time, no further information was made publicly available by the university — but the severity of the alert was listed as “extreme,” and the response urgency was listed as “immediate” on the Carolina Ready app.
