UNC Police alerted the campus community Friday evening of a sexual assault at Granville Towers which happened in September. This is the third sexual assault done by the same individual between August and October this year, according to the police department, which received a report about the September assault on Friday.

“The investigations of these incidents are ongoing and actions have been taken to protect our campus community,” the UNC Police message read. “There is no immediate threat at this time.”

Since September 20, the UNC Crime log listed four sexual offenses occurring at Fraternity Court, Ram Village 3, and Granville Towers East.

The university message encouraged all members of the campus community to look out for each other. The message said to respect the rights and boundaries of others, have clear consent before engaging in sexual activity, trust your instincts, be alert to your surroundings and that the absence of the word “no” does not constitute consent.

Friday’s release highlighted several resources for people who have experienced sexual violence available to the university and Chapel Hill community.

“The Gender Violence Services Coordinators (GVSCs) provide confidential support and advocacy for any student, faculty, staff or post-doctoral scholar impacted by sexual violence, relationship violence, stalking or sexual and gender-based harassment,” read the release. The GVSC is reachable at gvsc@unc.edu or by calling 919-962-1343.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is available 24 hours a day. Their number is 919-966-3658.

The UNC Police Department is also available 24 hours a day. Community members can call 911 in case of emergency or 919-962-8100 for non-emergencies. Officers are available in-person at the Public Safety Building at 285 Manning Drive.

“The Equal Opportunity and Compliance Office (EOC) oversees the campus report and response process for reports of campus sexual misconduct and is available to discuss reporting options, supportive measures and accommodations,” the police release read. “Individuals may connect with a Report and Response Coordinator by email at reportandresponse@unc.edu or by phone at 919-445-2759.”

The Orange County Rape Crisis Center’s confidential hotline is available 24 hours a day at 866-935-4783.
