The UNC Police Department issued an Alert Carolina message on Thursday night to the campus community, sharing details of an “unwanted sexual touching” that happened two days prior.
The message said a campus security authority received a report and the incident happened on Tuesday, January 10 on a Chapel Hill Transit bus. The vehicle was in the RR Parking Lot on Estes Drive when the touching occurred.
The crime alert said the offender is male, was not known to the victim, and has yet to be identified. It did not disclose any identifying characteristics. The campus-wide message also did not clarify whether the incident is under investigation by UNC Police.
Campus authorities shared several resources in the Alert Carolina for reporting or receiving wellbeing support for those who have experience sexual violence. They include:
- The university’s Gender Violence Services Coordinators, which can be called at 919-962-1343 or emailed here.

- A report and response coordinator with UNC’s Equal Opportunity and Compliance Office, which can be called at 919-445-2759 or emailed here.
- The Orange County Rape Crisis Center, which has a 24-hour, confidential hotline at 866-935-4783.
- The UNC Police Department, which can be visited in-person along Manning Drive, called at 911 and called at 919-962-8100.
