UPDATE: The Chapel Hill Police Department shared an alert on Monday, August 29, confirming Mark Allen was safely located.


The Chapel Hill Police Department is turning to the public for help finding a man missing since Wednesday afternoon.

A release from the department on Thursday said police are searching for 48-year-old Mark A. Allen. The alert said Allen, who is listed as a Henderson, N.C., resident, was last seen around noon on Wednesday around Franklin Street in downtown Chapel Hill.

Allen is described as 5-foot-10 and weighing approximately 160 lbs. Police said he was last seen boarding a bus to Durham and may be wearing blue scrubs. Thursday’s release also said Allen is not believed to be in danger.

Chapel Hill Police are encouraging anyone who may have information on Allen’s whereabouts or who saw him on Wednesday to contact the police department’s main number (919-968-2760) or call 911.
