UPDATE: Chapel Hill Police shared an alert at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday saying Shahbin was safely located.


The Chapel Hill Police Department turned to the public for help in locating a missing teenager on Monday morning.

A release from the department said officers are looking for 17-year-old Alezz Shahbin after a missing persons report was filed. The Chapel Hill resident was last seen on Sunday evening around 11:39 p.m., according to police. Shahbin was reportedly around the Glen Lennox neighborhood — a housing community off Hamilton Road.

Shahbin is described as being 5-foot-4 and weighing around 170 pounds. Police said the teenager was last seen wearing a dark-colored jacket and black backpack. Shahbin is not believed to be in danger, according to Monday’s release.

Chapel Hill Police said anyone with information about Shahbin’s whereabouts and wellbeing is encouraged to contact the Chapel Hill Police Department’s investigative division line at 919-968-2760 or to call 911. Community members who wish to remain anonymous can also use the Chapel Hill-Carrboro-UNC Crimestoppers hotline at 919-942-7515.
