One person was injured after a large branch fell from a tree in downtown Chapel Hill Monday morning.

Emergency crews responded to an area on West Franklin Street around 10 a.m. Officials said in an update that there was one minor injury.

The falling tree also took out power lines in the area. Duke Energy is not reporting any power outages.

The entire tree will now be removed because it “is hollow and could pose future harm,” according to town officials.

Town crews have been surveying and removing some trees along Franklin Street and in other portions of downtown in recent months due to the trees becoming hazards.

Replacement trees that are native to North Carolina will be planted in the fall, according to the town.
