A bovine in the boulevard? Livestock in a lane? A moo-moo on the motorway? Yes, two local bus routes experienced an unusual delay on Wednesday afternoon.

Chapel Hill Transit shared an alert shortly before 1 p.m., saying a cow was blocking part of Old Fayetteville Road in Carrboro — and making plenty of puns while doing so. The CM and F routes, which begin at the nearby Jones Ferry Road Park & Ride lot, were among those using the road who had to wait for the cow to be moved.

It took just less than half an hour from the first message to share that the cow had been safely relocated and the southern part of Old Fayetteville Road was back to normal traffic patterns.

Unsurprisingly, there were plenty Chapel Hill-Carrboro community members and local social media users who had a field day making jokes about the incident.

The wandering cow was not the only unexpected road closure in the community on Wednesday. Earlier in the morning, a fallen tree delayed traffic and Chapel Hill Transit routes along Raleigh Road in Chapel Hill for several hours before it was cleared.
