
The observation of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, January 15 will affect several local government services around the community. Here’s what residents can expect:
Town of Chapel Hill
Residential trash will not be collected. Monday’s routes will be serviced on Wednesday, January 17. Curbside recycling will also not be collected on Monday, with collections delayed one day during the week of January 14-20. Commercial trash will not be collected. Collections will be completed by the end of the week. Yard trimmings collection will not be affected. The Orange County Landfill and Waste & Recycling Centers will be closed.
The Chapel Hill Public Library will be closed. Chapel Hill Transit will operate its Sunday service on Monday, meaning no U or NU routes. Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation administrative offices, the Chapel Hill Community Center’s Indoor Pool, the Hargraves Center and the Teen Center will all be closed.

Town of Carrboro
Carrboro town offices will be closed on Monday. Yard waste collection will be delayed until Tuesday. For more information, and for local events honoring the holiday in Carrboro, click here.
Town of Hillsborough
Hillsborough town offices will be closed on Monday. No garbage will be collected. Monday and Tuesday’s routes will be combined on Tuesday, January 16. Loose leaf and brush collection, as well as the monthly bulk items collection, will not be affected.
Orange County
Orange County government offices will be closed on Monday.
