
The observation of Good Friday on March 29 will alter several government services around Orange County. Here’s what residents can expect:
Town of Chapel Hill
Good Friday is an official town holiday. Residential trash collection will not be affected, but collection of yard trimmings, curbside recycling and commercial trash will not occur on Friday. Recycling will be collected on Saturday, March 30, with no make-up day for yard trimmings. Commercial trash will be collected earlier in the week. The Orange County Landfill and Waste Recycling Centers will be closed on Good Friday and Sunday, March 31.
Chapel Hill Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule (no U, NU and Safe Rides routes) on Friday. EZ Ride will operate 8:15 a.m. to 6:52 p.m. The 420 Route will be in service.
The Chapel Hill Public Library will remain open on Friday, but will be closed on Easter Sunday, March 31. The Orange County Office and Maintenance Division will be closed.
The Parks and Recreation Administrative offices, Chapel Hill Community Center Pool, Hargraves Center and Teen Center will all be closed on Friday and Sunday. For more information, click here.
Town of Carrboro
Household waste collection scheduled for Friday will be moved to Monday, April 1. Collection of bulk waste, loose leaves and yard waste will not be affected.
Town of Hillsborough
Town offices will be closed on Friday, March 29. There will be no garbage collection on Friday. The following Monday, April 1, will see Friday and Monday’s routes combined. For more information, click here.
Orange County
Orange County administrative offices will be closed. Curbside recycling collection will be pushed back to Saturday. Recycling and convenience centers, Solid Waste administrative offices and the landfill will all be closed on Friday and Sunday.
All branches of the Orange County Library will be closed Friday and Sunday.
Orange County Public Transportation will only serve the county dialysis route on Friday. Full service will resume on Monday, April 1. For more information, click here.
