
July 4th falls on a Monday this year, meaning people around the country can enjoy a long weekend. Of course, that also means various government services here in the Orange County will be interrupted from their regular service patterns.
Here’s a list of what services will be altered this weekend throughout Orange County:
Town of Chapel Hill
All Chapel Hill administrative offices will be closed on Monday.
Residential trash, commercial trash and curbside recycling will not be collected, with all recycling routes delayed by one day. The residential trash make-up day is Wednesday, July 6. Yard waste collection will not be affected. In addition, the Orange County landfill and other waste collection centers will be closed.
The Chapel Hill Public Library will also be closed on Monday, and Chapel Hill Transit will not operate, with the exception of a shuttle service from Jackson Deck on the UNC campus and Southern Village for the night’s fireworks show. For more information on that, click here.

Town of Carrboro
The Town of Carrboro’s administrative offices will be closed Monday, July 4. Emergency police, fire and rescue services may be reached by calling 9-1-1.
Traffic patterns in Carrboro may be altered due to the People’s Parade, which will move from Weaver Street Market to the Carrboro Town Commons on Monday morning. For more information, click here.
Town of Hillsborough
Town offices will be closed on Monday, July 4. Garbage will be collected the following Tuesday, with services combining the normal Monday and Tuesday routes. For more information, click here.
Orange County Government
All Orange County administrative offices will be closed on Monday, July 4. Curbside recycling will be delayed by one day. All landfills, waste centers and related services will be closed.
The health department’s COVID vaccine clinic at the Southern Human Services Center in Chapel Hill and both COVID testing sites will be closed on Monday as well.
Any animal control emergencies, such as exposure to rabies, should be reported to 9-1-1.
