Local government boards are getting back into the swing of things this week after their respective holiday breaks. Multiple boards are discussing their goals for the General Assembly in 2023; Chapel Hill officials will take another look at a downtown development proposal; and officials in Durham will consider a symbolic action that honestly should happen, even though Chapel Hillians aren’t going to like it.
Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
Orange County
The Hillsborough Board of Commissioners meets Monday, January 9, at 7 p.m. in Town Hall Annex. Commissioners will discuss the topics for a work session later this month and set their legislative policy goals for the General Assembly in 2023. Click here for the full agenda.
The Orange County School Board also meets in Hillsborough at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 9, in the Whitted Building. The board’s work session agenda includes a discussion of data from a recent survey of students and families. Get the full agenda at this link.
The Carrboro Town Council meets Tuesday, January 10, at 7 p.m. in Town Hall. For their first meeting of 2023, council members will receive an annual report from the Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization; they’ll also discuss their legislative goals for the General Assembly. Click here for a link to the agenda.
And the Chapel Hill Town Council meets on Wednesday, January 11, at 7 p.m. in Town Hall. Council members will continue a hearing on a proposal for development at 101 E. Rosemary Street; they’ll also hear a concept plan for a UNC Health Care facility in Eastowne and open a public hearing on Habitat for Humanity’s Weavers Grove development. Get the full agenda here. (The Town Council will also meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 12 – a closed-session meeting, “to discuss a personnel matter.”)
Chatham and Durham Counties
The Pittsboro Board of Commissioners meets Monday, January 9, at 7 p.m. in the Chatham County Agriculture and Conference Center. Commissioners have a lighter agenda this week, with a presentation on transportation and a funding request for a downtown “sip and shop” event. Get the full agenda at this link.
Chatham County Commissioners have a busier week, with a three-day annual budget retreat beginning Tuesday, January 10 and running through Thursday the 12th. Click here for a link to the full agenda.
In Durham, County Commissioners meet Monday, January 9, at 7 p.m. in commissioners’ chambers. The board’s agenda is light this week, featuring a public hearing on a proposal to name a portion of NC-751 in honor of Mike Krzyzewski. Get the full agenda here.
And the Durham Public School Board holds a work session Thursday, January 12, starting at 5:30 p.m. The school board’s agenda includes a presentation on the district’s LGBTQ policies, an overview of transportation initiatives for the coming year, and a discussion of the board’s legislative agenda for the General Assembly in 2023.
