Local election season in Orange County is getting closer and one of the first rounds of endorsements of candidates has recently been released.

Equality North Carolina, an advocacy group and political action committee for LGBTQ rights, shared which candidates it is supporting in town government races this fall on Wednesday. Among that group are candidates in Chapel Hill and Carrboro races.

In the race for four Chapel Hill Town Council seats, Equality NC endorsed incumbent Karen Stegman and challenger Paris Miller-Foushee, while also supporting incumbent Pam Hemminger in the mayoral race.

All three incumbent candidates in the race for Carrboro Town Council received endorsements as well. Barbara Foushee, Jacquelyn Gist and Randee Haven-O’Donnell each were named to Equality NC’s endorsement list. Meanwhile, the group tabbed Damon Seils as its endorsed candidate for Carrboro mayor.

Only one candidate in a crowded race for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education earned recognition by Equality NC: George Griffin.

Despite running unopposed, Hillsborough Mayor Jenn Weaver also received an endorsement from Equality NC. None of the three candidates for the town’s Board of Commissioners received endorsements.

A full list of endorsed candidates in races across the state by Equality North Carolina can be found on its PAC website.
