The second annual Walk Fairview Day will take place in Hillsborough on Saturday. The event is described as a “neighborhood walk and pop-up demonstration,” aimed at increasing safety around Hillsborough’s Fairview neighborhood.

Youth interns from the Fairview area have been working in conjunction with the UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention in anticipation of the walk, identifying barriers to active living and workshopping strategies to solve them. The goal is to make Fairview a safer community for walking, biking and playing.

At the one-mile walk on Saturday, the interns will guide walkers around the community to learn the benefits of active living, making six stops along the way. According to Rachel Cominsky, communication strategist and program manager for the center, last year’s walk saw 45 members participate.

This year’s event will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., starting at the Dorothy Johnson Community Center at 501 Rainey Avenue. Those interested in registering for the event can click here.
