The Hillsborough Police Department said 51-year-old Emanuel Whitted was arrested Monday night after a day-long search following an armed robbery on South Churton Street.

A release from the department on Tuesday said Whitted was arrested around 11 p.m. at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Hospital police and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the arrest and resulting transport back to Hillsborough for questioning.

The Hillsborough Police Department shared information on a suspect it is seeking from an armed robbery on Sunday evening, saying investigators are searching for the “armed and dangerous” man.

The arrest came after police issued a release on Monday saying they obtained warrants for Whitted in connection to a robbery of the Circle K convenience store at 500 South Churton Street. The alert said around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Hillsborough Police officers responded to a 911 call from the store, as a cashier reported that a man had come behind the store counter and pushed a firearm into their back. During the robbery, the suspect forced the Circle K employee into a restroom, according to police.

On Monday, police described Whitted as “armed and dangerous” during its search for him.

Whitted faces charges of with robbery with a dangerous weapon, second-degree kidnapping and interfering with emergency communications. He is being held in Orange County Jail under a $100,000 secured bond, according to Hillsborough investigators.
