A dispute between two unsheltered men living at an encampment in southern Hillsborough led to charges, after one attacked the other with a machete.
A release from the Town of Hillsborough Wednesday night said its police officers responded to a report of an aggravated assault at 5:04 p.m. in the area of 500 South Churton Street — where a homeless encampment is in the woods across the street from the Circle K gas station. Upon emergency responders’ arrival, the victim was transported to UNC Hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to the alert.
Hillsborough Police Department charged 61-year-old Tyrone Lacour with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, and Lacour was assessed a $15,000 secured bond as he is held at the Orange County Detention Center. His first court appearance on the charge is scheduled for Thursday at 2 p.m.
Wednesday’s alert did not indicate if there was an ongoing investigation into the fight — but it did say anyone who may have further information about the incident or two men can contact Lt. William Felts at 919-296-9553 or by email. Additionally, any anonymous tips can be reported by calling 919-296-9555, messaging the police department through its Facebook page, or using the See it, Say it, Send it app and website.
