The Hillsborough Police Department has arrested a local man in an ongoing narcotics investigation. According to police, officers arrested 66-year-old Jeffrey Marsheal Ruffin Friday morning after executing a search warrant in the 200 block of Daye Street, north of downtown.

During the search, investigators say they recovered several items, including about 31.8 grams of cocaine, about 3.5 grams of marijuana, $1,185 in U.S. currency and a stolen handgun. Ruffin faces multiple charges, including trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The Hillsborough Police also say Orange County Animal Services was called to assist officers with securing several loose dogs on the property where the search took place.

He was transported to the Orange County Detention Center and is being held under a $20,000 secured bond. Ruffin’s first court appearance was Monday in Orange County District Court.

“Illegal drug distribution and unlawful firearm possession present significant risks to public safety and contribute to violent crime and neighborhood quality-of-life concerns,” said Captain Richard Hooks of the Hillsborough Police. “The Hillsborough Police Department remains committed to addressing narcotics-related activity and protecting the safety of our community.”

The department’s narcotics investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Investigator Andrew Jones at 919-296-9562 or by using the department’s police contact form. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling 919-296-9555 or by using the See it, Say it, Send it form.
