
The Hillsborough Police Department has arrested a Graham man in connection with a disturbance involving a fight and a firearm Friday evening in Hillsborough.
Police say they responded to the 200 block of Cheshire Drive at about 5:30 p.m. Friday with assistance from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Upon arrival, officers say they located multiple people believed to be involved in the incident and detained four as part of an initial investigation. Police identified 29-year-old Chan Owens as the “primary offender.” A 35-year-old man was also transported to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill with “serious” injuries, though police say he is believed to be in stable condition.
Owens has been arrested and transported to Orange County Jail. He is charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious bodily injury, as well as misdemeanor resisting a public officer. He is still awaiting his first court appearance, and police say additional charges may be forthcoming. The other individuals detained at the scene were later released. Police say based on information currently available, the incident is isolated and there is no threat to the public.
