The Pittsboro Police Department is investigating an incident on Monday night in which shots were fired at a Chatham County deputy’s home.
Officers responded shortly after 9 p.m. at the residence of the deputy. Pittsboro Police say the home, which is in the 400 block of Churchwood Lane Extension, was targeted by an individual or individuals who shot at it. No injuries were reported despite police saying “the dwelling was occupied.”
Chatham County Sheriff Mike Roberson has condemned the act and announced a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
“The safety and well-being of our officers and their families is of utmost importance to us,” he said in a release on Tuesday. “An attack on a deputy’s home is not just an attack on one person; it is an attack on the values of justice, security, and the rule of law. This act of violence will not be tolerated. Anyone who targets law enforcement in our community will face the full force of the law.”
The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information about the shooting, or the individuals involved, to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Pittsboro Police Department at 919-542-3200, or the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office at 919-542-2911.
