The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office has obtained warrants charging a Pittsboro man with multiple counts of identity theft and fraud. Aaron Luis Perez, 34, of 534 Deer Run is charged with 21 counts of felony financial card fraud, 20 counts of felony identity theft and two counts of misdemeanor possession of stolen goods.

The sheriff’s office says it began its investigation after receiving a report on Monday, May 11 regarding stolen credit and debit cards. According to the report, the cards had been used to make unauthorized purchases at multiple locations across a two-week period. The victim provided the sheriff’s office with bank statements documenting the fraudulent charges. The sheriff’s office says investigators also obtained surveillance video related to the transactions which helped them identify the suspect as Perez.

As of Thursday afternoon, when the sheriff’s office published the charges, he warrants against Perez have not yet been served.
