The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday the arrest of a second suspect in connection to a non-fatal shooting that took place at an intersection.

A release from the office said 26-year-old Wayne Lee Wilson Jr. is charged with assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a weapon into occupied property. According to investigators, Wilson has no registered address.

The shooting took place the morning of Wednesday, April 26, as a 17-year-old rolled their vehicle to the intersection of Moore Mountain Road and Hamlets Chapel Road outside of the Bynum community. At the time, investigators said a Black male suspect exited an SUV and fired into the victim’s vehicle — but indicated after the arrest of one suspect that the incident was still being examined. The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said the victim has since been released from the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Brian Julius Blackwell — a 21-year-old Pittsboro resident — was arrested on April 28 at Seaforth High School as he attempted to pick up a student. Blackwell was arrested on drug charges, but was also charged in connection to the shooting.

Wilson is jailed under a $125,000 secured bond. Both he and Blackwell will make their first appearances on the assault with a deadly weapon charges on Monday, May 15 in Chatham District Court.
