Chapel Hill Police are investigating a shooting at an apartment complex Friday afternoon that left one person dead.

The shooting, which happened shortly before 2:40 p.m., was said to involve multiple gunshots. At the time, police warned of an increased presence near Camelot Village and later said at least one victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Hours later, police department confirmed to Chapelboro a person died from gunshot wounds after being shot at the Camelot Village Apartments off South Estes Drive. On Saturday, the victim was revealed to be Dearie William Bourne, 21, of Chapel Hill.

Police arrested a 21-year-old, Jermaine Malik Chance, in connection to the shooting. Chance faces charges of first-degree murder, larceny and two other felonies. Chapel Hill authorities said Friday evening the shooting appeared to not be a random incident.

Friday’s shooting is the second incident involving gunfire in Camelot Village neighborhood in three months. Chapel Hill authorities arrested one person in December on felony charges, including discharging a weapon in a dwelling or moving vehicle and larceny.

Chance, who is listed by Chapel Hill Police as a Mebane resident, was issued no bond on his four charges. He is set to make his first court appearance on Monday, February 22.

The police department said Saturday the investigation into the incident is ongoing. Authorities say information that leads to an arrest may be eligible for a reward up to $2,000.
