The Carrboro Police Department is investigating two unrelated shootings that occurred within town limits this past weekend.

The first shooting occurred Saturday night in the parking lot of Carrboro Plaza on NC 54. Officers responded around 7:30 p.m. and found one victim with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim was transported to UNC Hospital to be treated.

It has since been determined that the victim and the suspect were involved in some type of altercation when the suspect produced a firearm and shot the victim. The suspect then fled the area in a vehicle. As they were leaving, a third person that was with the victim fired multiple shots at the fleeing suspect. At least one of the shots fired hit a vehicle belonging to a person completely unrelated to the altercation. No other injuries were reported.

Carrboro police said this shooting appears to be an isolated incident and they do not believe there is an on-going threat to the public. Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact Investigator Jordan Armstrong with the Carrboro Police Department at (919) 918-7417.

The second shooting occurred in the area of NC 54 and Jones Ferry Road on Sunday around 6 p.m. The victims reported they were driving on NC 54 and exiting at Jones Ferry Road when a speeding vehicle overtook them and stopped in front of them on the exit ramp. A subject then exited the vehicle and fired multiple shots into the front of the victim’s vehicle before getting back into their vehicle and fleeing the scene.

Police said no injuries were reported; however, there was minor damage to the victim’s vehicle. The suspect’s motive for the shooting is unknown at this time.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact Investigator Erasmo Velazquez with the Carrboro Police Department at (919) 918-7413.

Carrboro police said these two shootings appear to be unrelated at this time. Investigations are ongoing.
