The Carrboro Police Department said it is looking into gunfire stemming from an argument between two people on Tuesday afternoon.

A release from the department on Wednesday said the shooting happened near the intersection of North Carolina Highway 54 and West Main Street — a popular intersection by the Carrboro Plaza shopping center and a U.S. Postal Service office. According to police, two individuals got into an argument before the suspect pulled out a firearm and fired multiple gunshots. Eyewitnesses to the aftermath of the shooting told Chapelboro police were investigating the green near the Exxon gas station at the intersection.

The incident happened at approximately 12:35 p.m. on Tuesday. The suspect, who is described in Wednesday’s release a Black male wearing dark colored clothing, then fled the area on foot.

Carrboro Police said no one was injured from the gunfire. Investigators believe the shooting to be an isolated incident and there is not any ongoing threat to the public.
