The Carrboro Police Department is investigating a shooting in an apartment complex during early morning hours, with one man having been arrested on murder charges.

A release from the department said two people were shot during an incident around 2:30 a.m. on Friday at the Berkshire 54 Apartment Homes, located off of NC Highway 54. One person reportedly died at the scene, while the other was taken to UNC Hospitals. Carrboro Police described the person’s injuries to be life-threatening.

Police said Brandon Lee Freeman, a 27-year-old Carrboro resident, is charged with first degree murder and attempted first degree murder. Freeman’s address, according to authorities, is listed as the Berkshire 54 apartments. He is being held in the Orange County Detention Center with no bond.

According to the Carrboro Police Department, Friday’s shooting is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public’s safety. The release did say, however, the investigation is ongoing and no more additional information is available as of Friday morning.
