ALDI has reopened its Eastgate Crossing location months after it was forced to close due to flooding from Tropical Depression Chantal.
The grocery store, located at 1800 E. Franklin St. Suite 13, welcomed back customers on Thursday, Apr. 16 and will be open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. daily. The German chain is known for its discounted prices, and has over 13,000 stores across the world.
“At ALDI, we take pride in supporting our local communities, especially in times of need,” ALDI Regional Vice President Krysta Cearley said in a release. “We’re proud to reopen our doors and offer our Chapel Hill shoppers the same quality groceries they count on at the lowest possible prices.”
It is the latest Eastgate business to reopen its doors, and the second of the shopping center’s two grocery stores to return following Trader Joe’s in August of 2025. One of the ALDI chain’s parent companies, Aldi Nord, owns all Trader Joe’s locations in the United States.
Eastgate Crossing’s ALDI location first opened in 2022, in what was the former Stein Mart.
Other businesses to recently return to Eastgate Crossing after flood recovery include Twisted Noodle which reopened this week, Petco which reopened in March, and ALDI’s next door neighbor Kipos Greek Taverna, which reopened in February.
