Kipos Greek Taverna in Chapel Hill’s Eastgate Crossing shopping center will officially reopen for business Saturday, Feb. 21. The restaurant will celebrate the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce at 4:30 p.m., with dinner service beginning at 5 p.m.

Kipos, along with several other businesses in the area, has been closed since last July due to flooding across the Eastgate property from Tropical Depression Chantal.

“We’ve been deeply touched by the loyalty and resilience of our community,” Giorgios Hospitality Group, which owns Kipos, said in a release Friday. “We are eternally grateful for the continued encouragement and look forward to welcoming each and every guest with open arms.”

Reservations for the opening night of dinner service can be made here. Lunch and brunch hours will be announced following the reopening ceremony.

“We’re deeply thankful for the support we received during this rejuvenation period,” said Giorgio Bakatsias, the owner of Giorgios Hospitality Group. “And we’re excited to welcome everyone back.”

Kipos “embodies the spirit of an authentic Greek taverna,” reads the release from Giorgios Hospitality Group, “reflecting a way of life centered on love and connection.”

Giorgios Hospitality Group owns several other restaurants around the Triangle, including Osteria Georgi and Bin 54 Steak & Cellar in Chapel Hill, Vin Rouge and Local 22 Kitchen & Bar in Durham and Rosewater Kitchen & Bar in Raleigh. Kipos’ reopening announcement follows the group’s recent announcement of a new venture in Chapel Hill: Géos Tavern & Oyster Bar, which aims to open later this spring in the East 54 neighborhood.

Several other businesses affected by the flooding at Eastgate have reopened to the public. Most recently, The Loop restaurant reopened for business on Jan. 27, and Shake Shack and Great Outdoor Provision Co. have both also reopened their doors.
