A controversial charge call late in the fourth quarter on Sunday at Carmichael Arena sent UNC senior guard Paris Kea to the bench for the closing minutes in what ultimately became a close 64-63 loss to the visiting Florida State Seminoles.
Kea led head coach Sylvia Hatchell’s team with 17 points in the game, but was unable to provide help with the outcome in the balance over the closing minutes.
As a result, UNC (9-7, 0-2 ACC) dropped its second consecutive conference game in as many tries this season.
Janelle Bailey added 16 points for the Tar Heels, while Shayla Bennett also chipped in 15–including a three-pointer with less than two seconds to play that brought the team within one point on the scoreboard.
Bailey also scored to give UNC a 58-54 lead with three minutes to play, but the Seminoles (14-1, 1-0 ACC) reeled off 10 of the game’s final 15 points to eke out the victory on the road.
Up Next:
Another stiff test awaits the Tar Heels this Sunday, as they’re set to travel to face No. 14 Syracuse next Sunday at 3 p.m.
